Great director and this is another classic example of Crawfords acting skills. May not have won mother of the year but I guess with her career being her main focus she just did not know what it meant to be a mother and would not have wanted her for mine. I think I have the greatest Mother of all time and she is a jewel. You never know how much of the book is true because you only hear one side but I think acting was her escape because she could not handle real life and I say that because of the numerous failed marriages and relationships. She could act but I imagine she was a demanding female and her later movies show that hard core of hers in her face. Just my view of her.
